Clay Masks & Enzyme Peel Review

Over the past few months I committed to a strict 'no-buy' rule, and used up many of the skincare products with active chemical exfoliating ingredients that help with my acne. After 2 weeks of no exfoliating (both chemical and physical) my skin was retaliating a bit. I had broken out on my cheek and chin, and was really in need of some good ol fashion skin TLC. When Katerina Organic Skincare gifted me a few of her products that boast both exfoliating and hydrating ingredients I knew I was in for a treat.

(*Green Clay Facial Mask gifted but thoughts are my own!)

The ingredients in this mask immediately caught my eye.

The mask contains rose flower extract as its main liquid binder instead of water (which helps with balancing the PH level of skin and gives it that hydrating boost). It also contains aloe (again, another hydrating agent as ingredient #2 in this clay mask), kaolin clay as ingredient #3 (the charcoal mineral used to draw out impurities from pores), and follows with some amazing oils and extracts like honeysuckle, hemp seed, squalene (an ingredient that helps keep our skin moisturized) and a few others.

The mask itself smells heavenly but not too overwhelming. It applies so softly with no hard chunks that sometimes come along with clay masks and can then irritate the skin.

I left the mask on for about 20 minutes. It didn't crunch or feel hard and dry like most clay masks tend to; instead it felt actually soothing and hydrating while simultaneously drying and exfoliating. Usually that whole 'drawing out impurities' can be a marketing hoax, but I literally felt like it was doing that to my cysts!

It washed off easily with no need to rub at all. Sometimes, with clay masks, when they dry on the skin they tend to crack and can create a very harsh layer of product that takes effort to wash off, which becomes a problem then because you end up over physically exfoliating.

When washing it off, the red acne that was developing on my cheek was visibly flatter (I kid you not), the painful chin cysts were surfaced and my complexion was incredibly smooth! I figured 'hey that's cool...that never happens after 1 use of a mask', and so I eagerly waited three days to use it again.

Meanwhile, Katerina had recommended that after the mask draws out a cyst I could apply it as a spot treatment to dry out the pimple overnight, and so when I woke in the morning and noticed a visibly clearer complexion, and the spots where cysts were deep down and painful were all of a sudden surfaced and ready to pop, I put the mask on just those spots and let it do its work for about a half hour. After I washed my face, AGAIN I noticed a visibly reduced spot! I kept touching my cheek to check if it was just me being me and always trying to find a way to love a product (even if sometimes it doesn't work for me), but my cheek REALLY was smooth and flat and my cysts were no longer painfully inflamed.

A few days later I used her Fruit Enzyme Peel* which contains AHAs for chemically exfoliating (exactly what acne prone skin loves!) papaya, blueberry and lemon enzymes that encourage cell turnover, and apricot for a super gentle physical exfoliant.

(*Fruit Enzyme Peel gifted but thoughts are my own!)

This treatment also helped to sloth away the dead skin cells and pigmentation left after spots, and fade the remnants of my earlier breakout quicker than ever! I put it on while getting ready for my shower and five minutes later lightly wash it off to reveal a softer clearer complexion.

Both these masks are definitely going to be new staples in my exfoliating routine. If you are looking to add one like them to yours this is me saying YES, do try them.
